I provided a price quotation to one of my returning customers (a seller on bol.com).

 

TASK: A translation into Dutch of an existing user manual from a Chinese supplier. The English text was made in poor English.

 

WHAT WILL I DELIVER:

•    Nice Layout.
•    Perfect Dutch text.
•    Use of the correct technical language.
•    Unnecessary text/information removed. (FREE)
•    Correction of the mistakes in the original English text. (FREE)
•    Proofreading of the Dutch text. (FREE)

 

Unfortunately, my customer decided to give the translation to a cheaper Freelancer.

The translated text is now available online on bol.com. The Dutch text is even worse than the original text.

 

WHAT DID THE BUYER GET FROM THE CHEAPER FREELANCER:

• Nice Layout. YES
• Perfect Dutch text. NO
• Use of the correct technical language. NO
• Unnecessary text/information removed. NO
• Correction of the mistakes in the original English text. NO
• Proofreading of the Dutch text. NO

The first impression of the product that my buyer is selling on bol.com will not be a good one when possible buyers of this product read this badly translated user manual (this user manual can be viewed online on bol.com). The few dollars saved by using a cheaper freelancer are immediately lost as soon as 1 potential buyer of this product decides not to buy it after reading the user manual.

THE BITTERNESS OF POOR QUALITY REMAINS LONG AFTER THE SWEETNESS OF LOW PRICE IS FORGOTTEN.
